Your allocated bandwidth is different from your disk space.
The bandwidth you're given is the maximum data you're allowed to transfer monthly. Assuming your host gives you 1gb worth of bandwidth, this is the amount of maximum data you're allowed to transfer (including pages opened, files downloaded and uploaded, etc)

Your disk space is d size of your online storage, d space in which you can upload your files, pictures, music, softwares, etc and scripts.Now some hosts require you to have an already register domain name somewhere else and you'll need to do change some DNS record before you can make that work. I won't advise u to use those ones since you're not used to registering domain names and name server stuffs.

Make sure d host you're choosing also offers you a sub-domain like http://your-name.domain.com I believe now you have already registered wit a free host, right? now, check the welcome email you got including your account details.
